In recent years, Citroën has stopped offering sports versions, as the brand wants to emphasise comfort, and the GT, GTi, VTS and other versions are no longer in line with the values that Citroën is currently trying to defend. However, there are still a few places in the world where this idea makes sense, including Australia, which will soon get a C5 Aircross Sport.
During the first half of the year, the Citroën C5 Aircross will therefore make its debut in Australia in its restyled version, which will therefore take the name C5 Aircross Sport, the only level of finish offered on the brand's large SUV and which has no real sporting pretensions.
In fact, this new restyled version inherits, in addition to the aesthetic differences common to our European version, technical modifications with the adoption of a new four-cylinder petrol engine of 180 bhp to replace the old version limited to 165 bhp. In addition, this new engine (which is our old 180 bhp engine offered in Europe) is mated to the EAT8 gearbox instead of the 6-speed automatic gearbox used previously.
Kate Gillis, Managing Director of Citroën Australia, said: "We look forward to introducing the refreshed C5 Aircross Sport later this year in a revitalised local line-up, alongside the recent addition of the C5 X and C4, offering Australian consumers greater choice.Targeted at Citroën's discerning customers in Australia, the C5 Aircross Sport offers a compelling package with Citroën's advanced comfort philosophy influencing all aspects of the vehicle, a distinctive, modern exterior design and a comfortable, stylish interior. combined with key safety and convenience features".
The C5 Aircross Sport will receive a Black Pack including 19-inch black alloy wheels, gloss black door/view mirror surrounds, matt black roof bars, two-tone black roof and black coloured dots on the air bumps. Inside, this version will feature the Hype Black ambience, including black Nappa leather, with perforated Nappa leather seats. The C5 Aircross will be available in six colours in Australia (Polar White, Black Pearl Nera, Platinum Grey, Steel Grey, Eclipse Blue and Pearl White). Prices have not yet been announced, but are expected to be significantly higher.
