Stellantis has once again confirmed its position as an innovation leader in France. With 1,289 patents filed in 2024, the automotive group is the country's leading patent filer, according to the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). This achievement reflects the dynamism of Stellantis' research and development (R&D) teams, which continue to push the technological boundaries in a context of rapid change in the automotive sector.

Although the Group is now highly international, with engineering centres in several regions of the world, these figures demonstrate the strength of its roots in France and Europe. Innovation remains a strategic pillar for Stellantis, which is committed to developing cutting-edge technologies to support the transition to more sustainable, connected and safer mobility.

Record number of patents filed in 2024

In 2024, Stellantis filed 1,289 patents, consolidating its leadership in automotive innovation in France. This ranking, published by the INPI (French Industrial Property Institute), illustrates a strong trend: for more than 20 years, the Group has been one of the leading patent filers in France, with an average of more than 1,000 publications per year.

This consistent record of patent filings demonstrates Stellantis' ongoing commitment to protecting and promoting its innovations. The Group has already held the top position among patent filers in 2019, 2020 and 2023, and will repeat this performance in 2024. This ranking illustrates the company's ability to develop advanced technological solutions capable of meeting the challenges of the automotive industry and the new expectations of mobility.

Innovations focused on electrification, connectivity and safety

The areas covered by these patents are diverse and strategic to the future of the automotive industry. Stellantis focuses primarily on

  • Innovative powertrains: The Group is investing heavily in 100% electrification, hybridisation and hydrogen. The patents cover developments in engines, transmissions, batteries and fuel cells, with a clear objective: to maximise energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint.

  • Connectivity and digital solutions: Stellantis focuses on advanced technologies such as infotainment, Car-to-X applications, remote diagnostics and OTA (Over-The-Air) software updates that simplify the user experience.

  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: Safety continues to be a key development focus, with ever more efficient systems for safer and more intuitive driving.

  • Interior and exterior design: New designs and materials are being developed to improve vehicle comfort, ergonomics and aesthetics.

These advances demonstrate the Group's commitment to providing technological solutions that are both efficient and sustainable. By investing in cutting-edge technologies and protecting our advances, we are strengthening our competitiveness while accelerating the transition to more sustainable and intelligent mobility".
